The Cathedral Saint Mary of The Flower… Hi all, sorry for the gap between posts, we’ve been running around like crazy! :-) I wanted to share with you some of my pics from il Duomo, the mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Florence. It’s the third largest cathedral in the world and we climbed it, wahooo!! (And before the rain arrived!) Read more
Buon Anniversario Italia!
Happy Anniversary Italy! On March 17th, Italy celebrated the 150th anniversary of its unification. The streets were absolutely packed here in Florence and the Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace), the town hall, was decked out to reflect the day. Flags were flying everywhere and many activities were planned around the city. Read more
The Uffizi, la quarta volta e un incanto…
The Uffizi, fourth time is a charm… Yesterday, I finally made it into the Uffizi Gallery! During my previous three trips, the timing and availability never worked out, but this time it did. Still being in the off season helped a lot, as the Uffizi is famous for it’s long lines and hours of waiting to get in. It took only 60 minutes for us, pretty good in Uffizi terms. ;-) Well, it was worth the wait! Read more
Firenze di Notte
Florence at night… Last night after dinner outside (portable heaters still needed), we took a nice night time stroll through the center of Florence. The streets are so well lit and filled with people just enjoying the scenery, you feel instantly relaxed and comfortable. I have included some pics I took with just my iPhone… Read more
Buongiorno!
Ciao tutti! After seeming so far away, I’m finally here in Firenze! I’m all checked into my apartment and have been settling into my new Florentine digs. Today, I woke up to the sounds of the Basilica di San Lorenzo church bells and classical piano playing above me. A wonderful way to wake up… We are experiencing a rainy afternoon today, so it has enabled me to finish getting my blog up and running. :-)
So, to briefly begin, the trip over here was pretty smooth. (Well, Frankfurt security did scan all my electronics about four times!) The plane into Florence was filled with a German chamber orchestra, so that was pretty cool and a great vibe was had on that plane. Traveling with me is my Mom (for two weeks) and another little guy some of you might recognize. He is becoming quite the world traveler, much like the Travelocity Gnome. ;-) Anyway, there he is after checking in, along with the haul of luggage for my three month stint. I have to say, my most challenging packing experience to date!
Anyway, I’m safe and sound, all unpacked, have been grocery shopping and about to make some pasta for dinner. Thank goodness I’ll be doing a lot of walking! There’s more to come, so thanks for visiting and stay tuned!
